I love DMB. Their shows are usually incredible. I would imagine that the people on this thread calling them "hippie light" or "elevator music" are just suffering from underexposure, because that band rocks in a very very objective way.

Phish is a lot of fun, but for me their tunes lack emotional content, which just makes their jams sound sterile sometimes. But in the end they also rock.

"hippie elevator music" - That would be my charge.

Someone else mentioned it but I just can't past the high, whiny vocals. If I want that I'll go with Bon Iver - and I don't want that. Matthews looks like he's passing a jagged, 6 pound kidneystone with every note he sings.

Admittedly, I'm probably a bit jaded by some of the anecdotal stories of him being a douchebag with fans backstage. I did almost see him at the Virginia Beach Amphitheatre a few summers ago - but I left once the opening band - Umphreys McGee - was finished.

He's coming to VAB again this summer - I may give him another shot if I can't get a root canal and a fully awake colonoscopy scheduled that day.....

Are you sure you know who the Dave Matthews Band is? I think maybe you deserve that colonoscopy.

Yup - and from what I've seen and heard, I just don't like the music. I understand their commercial success, and I get it as to why DMB fans like the band, but it's just not my cuppa joe.

That said, will you comment further on how/why you think DMB "rocks in a very very objective way."

Please understand, I'm not poking you in the eye with the question - I'm just curious as to how you objectively measure something (music) that for me is very subjective.

And all of us here who have attained 50+ deserve a colonoscopy......

You don't think there's such a thing as bad music?

There is a lot of well played, bad music out there.

a form vs substance kind of thing.
